"Zen and the art of faking it"

Week 5 12/6/10 – 12/10/10
As we are reading poetry and looking at various parts of poems, can you notice some of the same figurative language in your independent reading? Using your notes from this week, give examples of each of the parts of figurative language we've been discussing.   You may not find all types. If you can’t find any, look at the poem you put on the moodle or the lyrics to your favorite song.  The chart attachment is at the bottom of this page 'Week 5 Blog', use it to set up your blog.   Turn in a "Process Your Process" chart to show us how you tackled this blog. This is also at the bottom of this page.

Well I started a new book called "Zen and the art of faking it." It is actually really good that it is very interesting for anyone to read. Here's a little summery about the book. "A brave book... Jordan SonnenBlick carries it off with such charm & Elan, you forgot for a moment your heart is breaking." " SonnenBlick shows that even in the midst of tragedy, life goes on, love can flower, & the one thing you can always change is yourself." Since we been talking about poetry, here's one poem that has figurative language in it.

           POEM
 I'll always remember her,
in good times and in bed.
I'll always remember,
the good friend that I had.

Next year we'll be at different schools.  ------- Metaphor
We'll have new teachers, new friends,
and all new rules.

I'll always remember,
the good times that we had.
And with her in my heart,
I'll never feel bad!

Every time I saw her,
she made me feel better.
I liked her more then anything, the day that I met her.   ------- Simile
I wish we could've been best friends.
That way I'd know she'd remember me,
till the very end!

As our school year comes to an end,
I'll always remember her, as my "wanna be" best friend.  ------ Simile

Zoe & Chloe On The Prowl (Sue Limb)

Week 3 11.22.10 - 11.26.10

1.Using your notes from your reading, summarize what is happening in your story using 2 examples from your book. Include at least2. one connection and3. one inference that you made while reading. Keep in mind the previous feedback that you've received so that you don't make the same errors.

Well Zoe and Chloe is still fighting but they do still talk just a little. They both like Toby still but Toby don't like them. One connection I have with my book is that Zoe I sometimes don't answer my phone calls cause I don't feel like it. What I think is that when Toby is gone that Zoe and Chloe will become friends again.

Well first I'll tell you a little about the book I'm reading! The book is called, "Zoe &Chloe On The Prowl" and the author of my book is Sue Limb. I haven't really got that far in it but I will tell you about my main characters that I have. One is Zoe that is best friends with Chloe. Zoe and Chloe is like 15 or 16 and there out in Paris by there-self partying.

Also my setting of my book for where it takes place is Paris, but I don't know when it happened. My plot for my book is that these two girls Zoe and Chloe is having fun in Paris and partying all the time. In my book the conflict is character vs. character. Zoe vs. Chloe on dancing the best at this party.

Universal Theme in my book is that Zoe thinks she dances better then Chloe, and Chloe thinks she dances better then Zoe so that's why they do a dance off. Plus the Theme of my book is that these two girls go out almost everyday and party in Paris.

Picure Perfect (What you need to feel better about your body)

10/5/10-10/8/10 week 6 (again)

It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.

My book that I'm reading that I am almost done with is called, "Picture Perfect ( What you need to feel better about your body). The chapter of my book I am on chapter 7 and page 170. First I will talk about the setting of my book. My setting is that it took place in school in Illinois and when well I don't exactly when it took place in as the date.

The plot talks about in my book is about girls body and how it changes when you hit the age of 13. It also talks about what they need to feel better about there body too. My book I'm reading id telling everything about a girls body and how that changes and always wait to do it never do it when your young.

My main characters are Suzy and Toby. Toby tried to get with Suzy but she doesn't like him. Suzy is a very nice girl never gets in trouble. But Toby starts lots of trouble and he even asked Suzy if she would even like to do it with him but she said no cause she isn't ready for it.

The Universal Theme in my book is that girls might thing there fat, ugly, there face cause pimples, and others. But if they truly look at there self then they will start to think that they look better and better everyday. If they just believe to there self they will like how there body is. Plus, it doesn't matter about the outside of you it really matters what is inside of you.

In my book the Theme is that it tells you everything you need to know about your body girls. It tells you what you should feel better about your body and also what you would need to know.

Picture Perfect (What you need to feel better about your body?)

Week 6.     9/30

(It is important for readers to understand what is happening in their books, who the characters are and what the theme is. In your response, outline the following: Plot, Setting, Characters, and Universal Theme. Provide evidence to support your thinking from your book.)

My book I'm reading is "Picture Perfect (What you need to feel better about your body)!" In my book I am on chapter 4 that's called "Can I please exchange my big stomach and Thunder Thighs?" In my book my setting is that it's taking place in school in Illinois and when it happened was um well I don't know yet.

The plot of my book talks about girls body how it change and what you need to feel better of your body changing. My book tells you everything that's happening in girls body even they're talking about you should never do it when do it when your young.

Well I don't really have a bad guy in my book but These two characters name Toby and Suzy. Toby asked Suzy if she would like to do it with him? But, Suzy said that she don't want to cause she's not ready plus to young and she also wants to get use to her body more and know more about her body before something happens first she says. I think that is absolutely  right cause if anything would ever happen. Plus, there is stuff in this book I didn't know about but now I do.

The good guy or should I say girl is Suzy cause she did the right thing to do and don't do it when your not ready or even when your young too. Plus you should never do it even just to get it over with you should wait always when your older then maybe you could but now wait. I said. Suzy is the good girl cause out of other girls and guys they would do it just to get it done with but, I'm saying you should always wait like what Suzy is doing.

My universal theme of my book is that girls think that there so fat, ugly, face, &other. girls also always try to look so good for boys but the girls still think that there ugly but truthfully they're very pretty guys say and plus it doesn't matter about the looks it matters about there personality. But some people only cares about the looks which it mostly is the inside of   you. Like us girls shouldn't really care about how we look on the outside cause it is all about whats in the inside of you and the boys also.

Breaking up is hard to do

In your book, what are some of the ways that your character expresses themselves through their emotions? How do they show love? Anger? Hate? Why is this important to you as a reader?

Well my book is called "Breaking Up is hard to do" and the way my character expresses themselves though their emotions is the way they dress, look, and talk. My character has a broken heart so she doesn't show love. But, they show their love by always hugging and kissing a lot. Anger is how they walk and talk to you that's anger. Hate is like they don't like you they want to always say stuff to you and be mean to you. It's important because as a reader it will help me read even more and be a better reader to me.

Vampire Kisses 3 Vampireville

Well in my book I express myself way different instead on how Raven express herself. She does it by wearing all black and being a Gothic-girl and trying to get with a Vampire but the Vampire doesn't want to date her but Raven is like in love with him. But the way I express myself is my hair, make-up, clothes, and sometimes my nails.

Breaking up is hard to do

This boy name Toby is dating this named Amber and he kissed her for the first time ever in one whole year. Toby and Amber is in Junior year and been dating for about one whole year and they have one month till graduation. Toby is like a cool person in this book. I know this because it shows it in my book and talks about it.

The other boy name is Blake. Blake is a person that stares off into space just like what I do sometimes. He also is short and trys to get girls a lot and flirts with them all the time. The reason how I know this is cause it's in the book in the middle of the book.

Breaking up is hard to do

The sheer pain of it all-nothing can compare to that either.
How can the human body endure so much? Will you ever get over it?

Luckily, the body can and you will, and here are four stories describing how.

Extraordinary authors Niki Burnham (Royally Jacked), Terri Clark (sleepless), Ellen Hopkins (Impulse, Crank), and Lynda Sandoval (Who's Your Daddy?) give us four tales of falling out of love. From Toby, who loses his girl because he's afraid of sex, to Mia, who has to get over the heartache of falling for a straight girl, to Dee, who discovers too late that it was a cruel joke, not love, and Lisa, who gets dumped because she's not pretty enough, each story shows the resilience of the human heart with a little humer, a little pain, and lots of truth.

Falling in love is amazing. Getting dumped sucks. Reading about someone else going through it-perfect.

A connection I could make with my book is that when I date someone and I start like him alot more then he dumps me so breakinvery hard to do cause you start liking the guy but he dumps you.
